The city of Alexandroupolis is the capital of the Prefecture of Evros and one of the newer Greek cities with a population of about 66,000 inhabitants. It has many unique attractions, including the famous Alexandroupolis Lighthouse, as well as the Ethnological Museum, the Mesembria zone Archaeological Site, the Museum of Ecclesiastical Art, the Historical Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Evros Delta National Park, the Avantha Castle in the northern part of the city as well as the Forest of Dadia, which gathers many species of flora and fauna from the Balkans, Europe and Asia.
